When I loginned MSN account yesterday, I saw many "Love China" icons from my Chinese friends. I felt very strange, so I asked one of my friends. Did something happen? She said "Yes, Chinese people felt angry about unreal reports from CNN and BBC". She asked me why those western reporters only reported Chinese government suppressed Tibetan but not Tibetan attacked Chinese.

It seems many misunderstandings exist between the west and the east. We, Taiwanese, loacte in the middle of the two culture. We have democratic regime, freedom of speech and also ancient Chinese culture. We speak Chinese and we learn English. It is difficult to distinguish what the west is and what the east is. In other words, Taiwan includes many kinds of culture, people and language. Like ocean, we embrace the diversity from other places. I think this is the value of Taiwan.

For those people who are abroad now, most of them will feel more familar when they get along with Chinese people, because they speak the same language. However, sometimes they feel more relaxing with other foreigners. Why? I guess it is because of the environment and atmosphere. Western people consider their human rights as the priority, and we also respect different opinions. You can express your ideas on condition that you don't hurt other people.

To love east or love west, it is a difficult choice. For me, my character involves part of eastern and western culture. There is no absolutely good personality. It totally depends on how you face your spirit or yourself. Hope this comflict between two cultures or nations can cease soon.

The following report is quoted from TechCrunch. The writer reported whole story of "Love China" incident.

Chinese Internet Users Say “Enough” To International Bullying
A virus is spreading through Chinese Internet users - they are adding a “Love China” icon to their MSN chat names by the thousands to show support for their country.

The icon, according to a number of blogs, is said to be in response to Western bullying over recent Olympic protests. Over the last weeks thousands of protesters have come out in force as the Olympic torch, destined for China this summer, has traveled through their borders. On a number of occasions the torch has been extinguished, and additional security measures have been taken in cities around the world.

From SushiPanda, linked above:

Over half of my Chinese-Chinese friends on MSN have put the badge on their contact names, in defiance of all the anti-China bullying that they’re undoubtedly reading about in the Chinese newspapers, watching on the Chinese news, and scouring over on the hundreds of blogs and BBS’s peppering China’s cyberscape and devoted to propping up this country’s national pride.

Outsiders are suggesting that the news in China is being censored and that Chinese citizens aren’t getting a balanced view of the reality of the international protests. But whatever the cause, this is a significant showing of Chinese nationalistic behavior, and a sign that they are paying attention to the outside world.
