Dragon Boat festival is a Chinese traditional festival held on the fifth day of the fifth moon on the lunar calendar. Nowadays, a lot of people know the dragon boat race and Zong Zi(a pyramid-shaped mass of glutinous rice wrapped in leaves). Furthurmore, it becomes a important holiday and tourist activity in Taiwan. About the history of Dragon Boat festival, It can be traced to more than two thousand years ago. The stories come from a ancient patriot-poet Qu Yuan who lived from 340-278 B.C. Qu Yuan was a minister who advocated reforms in his home state of Chu. The King refused to listen to Qu Yuan's advice and instead banished him from the state of Chu. To express his concern for his country and people, he wrote a famous poetry. In 278, when Qu Yuan heard that his home had been invaded, he drowned himself in the Mi Lo River. Thus, the festival commemorates the life and death of the patriotic poet.
